It was a long walk from my friend’s home to the center of Sarajevo. It could be done in a few hours, or taxis were quick and inexpensive.

The city remains pockmarked with bullet holes, mortar shells, graffiti, and the burned out skeletons of buildings. Unemployment rate was at 25% during my visit.
